The work camps in Miritini on the area of the planed youth and community centre are be and shall be the key event and experience for the young adults from Europe and Kenya, ready to face the problems: Africa, Kenya, Europe, and the togetherness of foreign cultures in the world.
The physical and mental demands for the people willing to meet the requirements in Miritini, are great, if adolescents or adults. However, it is for the Mombasa Scouts as well a great effort to work together with the Europeans.
They as well experiences different religion, culture and social structures, an other way of life.
We Europeans have to meet the people in Kenya in a scout friendship as we have promised, vowed and sworn in the old days to our group, to day in accordance with our international responsibilities.
We do not make just a “travel” to Africa; we make an International Scout Development Project, planned and prepared by adult scouts. This not only doing the adult scouts from Germany, no, but also from Austria, Italy and Liechtenstein, and more over the adult scouts from all of Europe.
The International Scout and Guide Fellowship, (ISGF) supports this project strongly.
The first work camps in Miritini were planed and prepared in Mombasa 2005. Marta De Lorenzo from Italy took over as camp leader and the camp planning for the Europeans for 2006 and 2007. The whole planning of the camps were made in coordination with the Mombasa Scouts and Marta from Italy. Shared in the planning were mainly the Area Commissioner, AC, Mombasa, Kutub Tajbhai and the Assistant Area Commissioner, AAC, Mombasa, Lawrence Mwadima.
In July and August 2006 the first 2 work camps took place in Miritini with young Italians and Mombasa Scouts. In February 2007 the third camp again with young Italians and Mombasa Scouts.
In 2008, August and September, Christian Erxleben from Germany takes over as camp leader for the Europeans. According to the running planning young scouts from Germany shall participate together with Mombasa Scouts.
We hope the situation in Kenya have calmed down until this time.
